Extensions vs. Lash Lift Can't decide?

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

Can't decide whether to get lash extensions or a lash lift?

If you are new to lashing and don't know what service to get, here are some factors that may help you decide.

Lash Lift

Lash lift is essentially a lash perm on natural lashes. The process entails placing a curved rod on the eyelid and carefully adhering the lashes to the rod using a water-soluble adhesive. A lash perm solution is placed on the lashes and is set for approximately 7-9 minutes. After the time is up and the perm solution is removed, a setting solution is placed on the lashes and set for half the time of the first solution. When the setting solution is removed, lashes are gently washed and removed from the rod, revealing beautiful, curled lashes! When adding a Lash Tint, we tint the lashes immediately after the Lift - adding an additional 10 minutes. Lift and Tint results in beautiful, curled, dark, luscious lashes! The entire process is around one hour.

For the next 24 hours after the Lift, we ask clients not to wear any eye makeup, not to wet lashes, and to stay away from any steam. Also, we ask clients not to sleep on their faces because the curl will be ruined (it has happened). After 24 hours, mascara and any eye makeup may be worn. We do not recommend using a lash curler after a Lash Lift, as this will ruin the perm. No maintenance is required after a lift/tint, and the service may be done every 6-8 weeks (or sooner, depending on the client). Lash lifts literally *lift* natural lashes. Because they are curled to their maximum potential, they add a longer lash illusion. Lashes will look longer and darker with the tint! If you are concerned that your natural lashes may be too short to get a lash lift, contact us at info@mjskinnaturals.com, or a free consultation may be scheduled. Lash Lifts last around 4-6 weeks with proper care, and a Tint lasts about 5-7 days. We offer both Lift and Tint together and a Lift alone.

Lash Extensions

Lash extensions entail a more lengthy process and do require more maintenance as opposed to a Lash Lift. A new set of lash extensions requires at least 2.5 hours, as individual lash extensions are placed one by one on each natural lash. With extensions, there are a variety of looks to choose from; check out our gallery. For first-time clients having difficulty deciding what look to choose, we typically recommend starting off with a Classic set which gives a more natural look. This allows clients to "test" them out. If clients decide they'd like more length or a fuller look, we can build them up on their next appointment.

Maintenance

Lash extensions MUST be washed every night with an oil-free cleanser (which we sell for $12). Mascara is a no-no on lash extensions as it will completely ruin them. Other eye makeup such as eyeliner and eye shadow is okay, as long as it is removed nightly. Products that contain oils will break down the adhesive, and extensions will fall out sooner. It is extremely important to follow these hygiene steps to avoid any eye infections, such as blepharitis. Believe me, it is not pretty!

Fills are also a crucial factor in lash maintenance in order to keep lashes looking full. We usually shed around 5-7 natural lashes daily! With them, the extensions are shed as well since they are attached to natural lashes. Depending on daily activity, it is customary to lose inner and outer corner extensions first. For example, clients who live an active lifestyle and exercise frequently tend to lose extensions quicker. Fills are typically recommended every 2 weeks. However, we also offer 1-week and 3-week options. These options will be discussed during the appointment and determined based on a client's lifestyle.

Whichever option you choose, we are here to answer any question and address any concern! Do not hesitate to contact us at info@mjskinnaturals.com. Book your next appointment here!
